Food is OK but very BAD delivery guy!! Please educate well your delivery service person so that they know how to treat customers.

Food is authentic (I'm Chinese). Get this every time I have a craving. Though it is a bit pricey. But for the quality, I'm a happy camper

HORRIBLE customer service. The delivery guy refused to give me my food unless I gave more tip, after making me wait for 15 minutes in my company lobby. I called the restaurant to complain and they didn't apologize, even hung up on me! Unbelievable. Needless to say I will never order from here again.

Great lunch special.

Sautéed Baby Bok Choy (#113), under seasoned, but enough to serve four; Szechuan Pork Dumplings (#23), greasy, limp, and near tasteless; Smoked Wok Tossed Prawns (#135), greasy, dry, and near impossible to separate the shells from the meat. Overall, very poor quality with an inflated prices.

The price increased by over 10%! We ordered but no one confirmed it! We called it and someone answered the phone without any word!!!!

probably the worst I have ordered in years. little flavor yet drowning in sauce.
Posted 5 years ago by Ursula C.
Terrible service. EXTREMELY rude... I can't believe that they treated customer as such as can still get customers - yelling on the phone, 2 hours delay, hanging up on customers, and the delivery guy just threw the food on the floor instead of handing over to for me to pick up... incredible

Always amazing and authentic. Love SG!

How nice to have some Chinese food that isn't drowning in sauce! The lunch delivery came quickly and the delivery person was very pleasant. I think I have found my new favorite Chinese in Midtown West. One little quibble - no fortune cookie?

one hostess's always greeting people with sh*t face. She's always kind of rude. great food however.

Really good Chinese food. Well-priced lunch specials with some unusual offerings.
Posted 5 years ago by Karen T.
This place is great if you stick to the Szechuan dishes, but they are really subpar if it's something else. Their so-called fried dumplings are not even Chinese -- they're ready-made frozen Japanese gyoza!
Posted 5 years ago by Andrew T.
Tasty, good quality, generous portions and fast delivery. The best Chinese take-out in Hell's Kitchen I've found.
Posted 5 years ago by Tom M.
Absolutely disgusting. Ordered my dish to be steamed with the sauce on the side. What I got was my order in a to go dish SWIMMING in a 2-inch high pool of oil. With the sauce on the side of course. And the wonton soup? Expect bland broth with two teeny little "wontons". I'd avoid this place.

The worst delivery in this area!!! The delivery man was really rude and impolite and we ordered the food at 5:45pm but the food is arrived at 7:38pm. Unbelieved! I am not highly recommended this restaurant!

Food is hit and miss. When it's good, it's very good, When it's bad, it's just bleah. But the sliced pork belly in chili-garlic soy is amazing, and a lot of the non-Americanized options are good.

Great food, delivery was super fast!

Rude deliveryman. The delivery person called me at 12:08. I got to him downstairs at 12:12. He yelled at me for being late and banged the food down on the turnstile. I appreciate delivering food in this weather . However, I have never encountered a deliveryman who got mad for making him wait 4 mins!

not sure why everyone raved about the double-cooked pork belly when it's the driest one I've ever had. Delivery person not nice at all. Is there anything wrong with giving a delivery guy 12+% as tip?

good food, hot and fast delivery! no complaints

Do not order from here! We ordered a $15 Steamed Chicken and Vegetables dinner with brown sauce on the side...and they sent a quart container that was 1/3 filled up with a few pieces of slimy white chicken and a few soggy vegies and a quart of brown sauce. When we called to inquire, they informed us that we ordered the wrong thing and that if we wanted to switch we would have to pay a delivery fee or come into the restaurant. This is a shame because we live locally and have ordered from here before without incident. After this we will never eat here again.

The food is good, but I ordered the lunch special at 1:30 and waited for literally an hour.... My place is like 8 blocks away from it I don't get why it took them so long to make two dishes of food.

I have ordered from here twice this week and both times it was great. A chicken and broccoli lunch special was exactly what you want with such a staple. Had the lemon chicken and some spring rolls tonight and it was excellent. The chicken was fried perfectly, very tender. Also, super fast delivery. Will definitely order again.

Mediocre at best.

Spare ribs dried out and icky sweet. Egg drop soup tasteless. Not worth a retry.

not nearly as good as the 39th street location. szechuan dumplings had no flavor just grease. Wonton soup was generic. very bad chinese takeout

Found little bones in the general tso's chicken - total turn off

The service is unacceptable. Please do not try to replace anything in your order, you either pay extra or not allowed. I ordered a fish soup for $10.95 per order, i requested to replace some fish with some tofu, the answer i got was, you either pay $2 extra or can not add. I understand if this is a lunch special, but this is a dinner order with another dinner entree. The way I was explained was basically like, you either order or go somewhere else, we do not care for your business. I am already full without eating. I will never order from there again.

Bad orange chicken (80%fat 20% chicken). Vege Dumplings were funky too. Avoid

Fast service which is why I gave it two stars. Ordered General Tsou with rice and hot & sour soup. It was one of the worst chinese food I have ever ate.
Posted 6 years ago by Elsa C.
Yes this place is greasy but I love the choices and they deliver lightening fast. The only time I had a problem with delivery they didn't argue about a refund. This is also the only other place that makes food as spicy as I like.
Posted 6 years ago by Julie S.
This is what greasy Chinese food should taste like. The kind that's so good, the MSG makes your face tingle after you eat it. Hey, no one orders Chinese food when they're on a health kick, right?

House Special Braised Beef Noodles with 5 Spices -- Tasty but not the most authentic. Could be better. Delivery was fast! (I ordered on the early side for dinner, on a week night)

The food was fine, but mediocre. The crispy orange chicken was soggy, the lo mein lacked flavor, and the pork dumplings just tasted off.

This is NOT the original Szechuan Gourmet on 39th st., which is a wonderful place, just a pale (and nasty) imitation. The two restaurants may share a name and many of the menu items, but the 56th St. restaurant is a disaster - I work near it, so I was very happy when they opened, and ate there at least 10 times in the hope that they'll get better with time, but they've only gotten worse. The last straw came with a truly sickening dish of prawns, which reeked because they were so past their prime. Yes, they replaced the dish with a grumble, but I was already nauseous. They are unable to follow spicing instructions at all, and on at least one occasion seemed to deliberately spike a dish ordered mild with an absurd amount of chili powder, but that's the least of their problems. They are riding on, and ruining, the sterling reputation of the original restaurant. Avoid at all costs.

The double cooked pork belly and leek lunch special: JUST DO IT, don't wait. It's pretty spicy, as it should be. Good value for midtown delivery lunch.

Terrible food and terrible delivery!
Posted 7 years ago by Lakshya M.
Delivered the wrong order. Took forever, and two phone calls, to come back and brought my original order which in the mean time had been delivered to somebody else. By the time we got our food it was lukewarm, soggy and barely edible. No offer to make up for their mistake. Last time this place gets my business.

really good traditional Chinese Spicy food <3

Their food is so good!! very authentic... however if you happen to dine in, their waiters may not be the nicest and they expect you tip them WELL (and if you don't, they will chase after you...).

Best new addition to the neighborhood! Their vegetarian selections are amazing!

Our go to take out. Great food and fast delivery.

excellent Szechuan food. If I were ordering more run-of-the-mill Chinese cuisine, I perhaps wouldn't choose here, but they're specialties are excellent and the delivery service is prompt.
Posted 7 years ago by Shahzad S.
The food is typically very good, but their delivery is atrocious. They never, ever adhere to delivery times specified on your Seamless Web order and the past 3 times I have ordered they have forgotten dishes. This is one of my officemates' favorite restuarants to get lunch from, so I'm forced to go back, but their delivery operations are some of the worst I have ever had to deal with. Total headache.

i have to say, it's the most authentic Sichuan food in midtown. absolutely love their appetizers and spicy dishes. and they always delivered fast
Posted 8 years ago by Sean Z.
Very mediocre food. The pork dumplings were burnt. The hot & sour soup wasn't good. My main dish was chicken with black bean sauce. The sauce was thin and watery. I threw most of it out. I wouldn't order from here again.

put in an order and the delivery estimate was 15-30 minutes. i work about 10 blocks away from the restaurant. after an hour, i called and the lady said the delivery guy was on his way. after another hour, i called to cancel and the lady refused to cancel the order because the guy was on his way. thank goodness i placed the order thru seamlessweb because they were able to cancel the order and refund my money. seamlessweb customer service is great!

Delicous chinese food for the price, fast delivery.
Posted 8 years ago by Gillian .
Szechuan Gourmet (SG) is one of the more refined Chinese restaurants on seamlessweb. - Enoki mushrooms in the hot and sour soup, for example. Chinese is my native food and it’s not easy to satisfy my craving for good (real) Chinese food, but SG always comes through. I will be ordering from SG until something better comes along.

Restaurant took twice as long as the estimate to deliver the dinner. When we called, they said it was because they only had one delivery person that night -- which means the food had been prepared, but sat there getting cold, waiting for someone to deliver it.

The food was very oily. I ordered the cellaphane noodles with pork and it came floating in oil so I could not enjoy it. The dumplings were very good but also sitting in oil. I ended up throwing most of it out.
Posted 9 years ago by Debra S.
I love the food, and I can get traditional authentic foods from my childhood like the duck tongue, the tendon and the tripe. Where else can you get those things besides Chinatown? Definitely one of my favorite places to order/eat in now.

delivery took a VERY long time. and i live 3 blocks away. food's not bad.
Posted 9 years ago by Nancy C.
When this place opened, I was just back from Chengdu, Sichuan, and I was ordering 2 or three times a week. The double-cooked pork belly with chili leeks were without peer - perfectly delicious; sliced chili beef with leeks, exquisitely spicy. Lately, however, the food seems to be lacking...something. And they're spotty on delivering the delicious pickles. Good food, however, and a fine lunch pick.

Tofu tasted okay but too chewy.

Terrible tasteless food. The sauce for the ribs is absolutely the worst I have tasted. This restaurant would have zero stars if it weren't for the prompt and polite delivery guy.
Posted 9 years ago by Mark N.
Great, authentic Szechuan cuisine that is pretty inexpensive. Lunch specials are a great deal with soup, rice and entree. Wonton soup that comes with lunch special is nothing special but nice and mild. Once, even got a side of delicious cold edamame beans that had been stir fried with little pieces of red pepper with the lunch special! Mabo tofu dish is great. It is NOT the black bean kind (which I don't like as much) and had the essential spice that most mabo tofu dishes are missing in America: huajiao (or Szechuan peppercorns). The pork belly dish is delicious as well, and the jasmine rice is always fragrant and cooked perfectly.
